Kings Daughters Community Health & Rehabilitation in Staunton, Virginia reported 34 active COVID-19 cases in their facility this past week, just a few months after receiving a one-star rating from Medicare health inspection this past June.
The outbreak comes amidst a recent surge of COVID-19 cases across the state of Virginia, but particularly in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Most facilities remain understaffed and ill-prepared to manage the outbreaks. So far, it has caused the death of one nursing home resident. The granddaughter of resident Jesse Meadows claims she was unaware that there was an outbreak at her grandfather’s residence until she received news that he had already passed away.
