Advocates Of Nursing Home Care Fight Appeal Verdict To Support Whisteblowers

An organization in support of quality care for the elderly is fighting to overturn a verdict upholding an appeal. The court overturned the ruling of $9 million awarded against a nursing home alleged to have forced nurses to falsify or destroy records. The concern with the appeal is that message it would send.

The case facts were primarily based on two whistleblower nurses who were unable to produce enough evidence to support their testimonies per the court. The nursing home was said to have falsified requests for Medicare and Medicaid while allowing patients to live in poor conditions. The organization is working to overturn the appeal to encourage future whistleblowers to come forward when they witness abuse and neglect in nursing homes. For more, read the story.
