Assisted Living Resident Celebrates 108 Years

An assisted living center resident, Chella Murphy, turned
108 years old on Thursday. At her birthday party she blew out the three candles on her cake all in one breath.

“It feels good,” Murphy said about turning 108. “The
only bad thing is my eyesight is so poor. Otherwise, I don’t have an
ache or a pain.”

Her longevity may be attributed to her genes. Her mother and
several of her uncles lived to be at least 100 years old as well.

The staff of the facility presented her with a two-tier birthday cake Thursday
afternoon, and the director of public relations put together a film featuring interviews with her fellow
residents.

Around the home she is best known for her love for
bridge, sweets, oatmeal, antiques and the fact that even at 108, she makes sure to walk every day.

One staff member even commented that Mrs. Murphy probably walks more than anyone else in the building. For more, read the story.
