An elderly man, staying at
an assisted living center, is accused of hitting another
resident who was in his 60s in the head with a hammer, police said.
The 79-year-old temporary resident was charged with aggravated battery.
Police do not know the reason for the attack but called it “unusual and sad.”
The
hammer was sitting out because of construction work being done to part
of the facility. “The hammer was a weapon of opportunity,” police said.
The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released.
He has returned to his apartment at the assisted living center, where he is recovering, the administrator said. She also said she didn’t know what caused the attack.
“There was no altercation, there was no argument, there was no nothing,” she said. “We don’t know why.” For more, read the story.
