Bill Proposed in Efforts to Deter Invasion of Developmentally Disabled Elders’ Privacy

One state’s senator is supporting a bill in hopes of further protecting seniors with developmental disabilities, such as Alzheimer’s. The bill provides additional specification for violations of these vulnerable seniors’ privacy rights, especially those in nursing homes. If passed, the bill would instill laws and regulations to prevent privacy breaches.

The bill was ignited following an incident where a nurse’s aide took and posted a photograph on social media of a demented patient who had soiled himself. According to current laws, no crimes were committed by the nurse's aide. The above-referenced senator is sponsoring this bill to deter incidents like this from happening again.
