This week, multiple nursing homes and assisted living facilities across Central Virginia saw a surge in COVID-19. A recent outbreak took place at Rosewood Village in Charlottesville, where there are over 30 cases, and two reported deaths of residents who tested positive. This outbreak is reflected in Staunton as well, where Kings’ Daughters has reported over 80 cases.
These outbreaks are continuing to spread into neighboring communities and facilities. Many of these facilities have released statements asking the local community to “take all recommended precautions” to protect vulnerable citizens.
Amidst these outbreaks, the Virginia Department of Health switched to weekly updates of long term care facility outbreaks, instead of daily. The VDH outbreak numbers can be followed here.
