D.C. Police Officer Arrested for Financial Scam Against Elderly Woman

A Washington DC police officer was charged last week with scamming an elderly woman she was assigned to help, authorities said. Sgt. Aisha Hackley, 35-years-old, was arrested for theft at the police department’s headquarters, where she works.

Hackley deposited 10 checks from an elderly woman’s Bank of America account that totaled more than $43,000, according to police documents. The officer met the elderly woman six months ago in connection with a fraud investigation.  The older woman contacted her bank after noticing a series of suspicious checks charged against her account. She later told a fraud investigator that the signature on eight of the checks was not hers, that she would not have authorized the checks for the amounts written and that she did not know the people the checks had been issued to. The officer’s police powers have been revoked. For more, read the story.
