When COVID-19 restrictions prohibited MJ Ryan from seeing her mother at her nursing home, MJ took an open position in the laundry room to see her mother once per week. MJ has worked as a health care professional for many years, but knew she belonged in her mother’s facility “by the end of her first shift.”
MJ’s appreciation for essential workers also grew with her new job, noting that “without laundry and housekeeping and maintenance and all the other people who showed up all through this crisis . . . and continue to show up and risk their own health and family’s health.”
