Eight nursing homes have been fined after being cited for deficiencies in patient care. The deficiencies included unsanitary food, medication errors, failure to prevent wandering of patients, and filthy conditions. Family members of nursing home patients were concerned over their loved ones' care and safety as a result.
“If conditions do not change, if individuals have or are likely to suffer serious injury, impairment or death, we start looking at recommending … civil monetary penalties,” said the state survey manager.
