Elderly Nursing Home Resident Fractures Leg and Hip in Jump From Second-Story Window

Police have reported that a 72-year-old nursing home resident was badly injured when she jumped from a second-story window at the facility last Saturday. The woman, who suffers from dementia, has been hospitalized for treatment of a fractured leg and hip.

According to police, the woman had been admitted to the facility recently and prior to admission had a history of wandering away from her own home. Facility employees told police that all doors on the unit were secure so the woman’s only way to exit was through the window.

The resident was discovered missing during a room check. After  a search of the hall, the patient was discovered on the sidewalk below her window. It is unclear whether the facility had implemented the use of window alarms. For more, read the story.
