An elderly nursing home resident who recently was discovered to have 57 maggots in her ear has now developed a serious infection. The elderly woman who suffers from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease has developed MRSA, an antibiotic-resistant form of Staph infection.
The woman’s husband has filed suit against the facility alleging that the maggots and subsequent infection are the result of neglect. After the maggots were discovered, doctors had to perform surgery to remove them from the woman’s ear. Her family says they hope that she will be able to overcome the MRSA infection.
