According to an article on Healthcare Finance, the website Nursing Home Compare, sponsored by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is claiming inaccurate data in its findings of reports on patient safety-related falls in nursing homes across the United States. This allegation is alarming, as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is a resource for many families that are researching nursing homes for their loved ones.
Prachi Sanhavi, an assistant professor of public health sciences at a Chicago University stated that there were major discrepancies between the falls calculations used by the website, and actual Medicare claims for falls by the nursing home residents from 2011-2015. Professor Sanhavi found that only 57.5.% of falls were accounted for in the Nursing Home Compare's Minimum Date Set which was published on their website.
