Nursing home patients experience facial injuries often according to a study of a research team. “Facial injuries are underappreciated,” a professor of nursing on the research team added, “as they may accompany other sometimes more severe injuries and are therefore overlooked.” Researchers noted the most common facial injuries are skin tears and deep cuts. Other injuries included bone fractures.
“We encourage families moving their loved ones into a skilled nursing facility to inquire about the level of supervision provided, particularly with regards to transfer to and from bed as well as assistance using the bathroom,” said another study author. For more, read the story.
