In response to tornado fatalities in recent years, government agencies are calling on nursing homes for Tornado preparation and provision of shelter. A nursing home that lost the lives of 19 patients due to a tornado was considered the most dangerous. Investigations reveal there were areas that would have been a stronger shelter than others.
If the home had been prepared and cognizant of safer areas, it is possible more lives would have been saved. Increasing focus will be on nursing homes to identify and publicize safe areas for shelter in facilities where tornados are a more imminent danger.
