Former Nursing Home Aide Faces Prison For Dropping Resident

A former nursing home aide was arrested and is being sent to jail for up to four years. The aide dropped one of the facility’s residents. The 85-year-old resident that fell was a resident requiring complete assistance from staff for everyday things such as getting out of bed. The aide dropped the resident on the floor when she was trying to move the resident out of bed with a mechanical lift on her own.

Trained nurses and aides are aware that moving disabled patients in need of assistance requires at least two individuals to ensure the safety of transfers. By moving the resident by herself the nursing home aide knowingly put the resident at risk, which ultimately led to the resident’s fall, the resident’s injuries, and the nursing aide’s arrest.
