A woman pleaded guilty Monday to stealing prescription drugs from a nursing home for her son to sell. The 46-year-old woman started working as a licensed practical nurse
(LPN) for the nursing home in November 2008. In August of 2009, rather than disposing of medicines patients refused to take, she began taking them home and passing them along to her son to sell.
The Assistant Prosecutor in the case told the court the stealing
went on for about two months and included Ativan, Xanax, Lortab and
morphine.The nursing home fired the former nurse shortly after the investigation. The woman told the court that she never explicitly
told her son to sell the drugs but left them for her son to find,
knowing that would be the result. Despite her testimony she pleaded guilty to possessing a controlled substance with the intent to distribute. For more, read the story.
