Two former nursing home employees have been charged with neglect of a nursing home patient. The patient was transferred to another facility for a pressure ulcer on his heel, and was found to be pale and covered in vomit upon admission. An investigation ensued to discover what was wrong with the patient.
“Upon further examination of the Foley catheter the nurses discovered that the balloon of the catheter had only been inserted approximately 1 1/2 to 2 inches int he penis and the inflated balloon was protruding through the skin of the shaft of the penis creating an infected chronic non-healing posterior ulcer to the penis,” the report states.
The penile pressure also was never documented by nursing home employees. However, it was severe enough to cause septic shock. The attorney general is prosecuting the case against the former employees. For more, read the story.
