The Wall Street Journal has recently reported that a nursing home database by the US government has begun flagging facilities that have recently been cited for suspicious abuse or neglect of their elderly residents. According to their website, of the 15,262 facilities researched, around 760, or 5%, have been flagged with abuse citations.
Nursing home industry executives state that the citation flags are misleading and that this information could damage the facilities' reputations. However, consumer advocate point out that many cases of abuse and neglect go undiscovered or unreported.
