Government Scores “One Star” Staffing Ratings for Several Nursing Homes in One Area

Low nurse staffing remains a great problem for nursing homes, especially in one area that received the lowest “grade” from the federal government. Last year, the federal government began rating nursing home facilities based upon their staffing, or lack of, in order for consumers to locate quality nursing home care. Thirty nursing homes in one area received one-star ratings for their staffing, which is considered far below typical.

Statistically speaking, low staff counts usually means higher risks for falls and other medical injuries for nursing home patients. Arguably low pay for aides and quick staff turnover are among the reasons for the sub-par ratings. For more, read the story.
