After seeing her grandmother move from facility to facility without ever receiving the care or attention she deserved, a woman decided to open her own assisted living home.
“Clara lived with my family from when I was 10 years old,” the granddaughter recalled. “After I left for college, her dementia really started showing and progressing to a level where my parents couldn’t take care of her in the home.”
“Nana” struggled with chronic dehydration, urinary tract infections, falls and other health problems that were largely preventable. The facilities were not able to give her the care she needed and explained it was because the caregiver-to-resident ratio was too low.
“Nobody had the time to care,” the granddaughter said. “Clara was, in total, in about 10 different assisted living facilities.” For more, read the story.
