In six out of every 10 cases, health regulators failed to investigate the most serious nursing home complaints. Data shows that these health regulators missed deadlines for 150 cases that alleged their patients were at immediate risk for further harm or had been seriously harmed.
Families asked the agency to investigate “instances of harmful care, beatings, sexual assaults, and theft.” However, many of these complaints were never addressed. The number of nursing home complaints skyrocketed in 2018 with 20% of those complaints considered immediate jeopardy or high priority. For more, read here.
