Hospital Focuses on Pressure Ulcer Education

At Lancashire Teaching Hospitals in the United Kingdom, a Tissue Viability team is sharing the importance of pressure ulcer prevention to other healthcare providers. Their goal is to “raise awareness, educate staff and patients, and develop new ways of working.” The team understands the terrible, long-term effects pressure ulcers can have on someone, citing that the effects can be “psychological to physical, affecting their daily life.”

The team is hosting “Wound Care Wednesdays” from November to December “to promote best practices of wound management for clinical staff,” and will ensure to recognize staff “who go above and beyond to promote pressure ulcer prevention.” In addition, the staff is testing out an app that records pressure ulcers at their point of care.
