A hospital has settled a class action lawsuit after a deadly outbreak of C. difficile at the facility. According to court records, in the spring of 2008, 91 patients infected with the C. difficile superbug had died and a total of 225 had become infected.
The lawsuit covered a class of 200 potential claimants, most of the money going to the family of the deceased and those who suffered from symptoms more than 90 days. The highly contagious intestinal bacteria most often results in severe toxic diarrhea, fever, and occasionally death. The lawsuit alleged that the hospital was not properly cleaned, maintained and disinfected to prevent the spread of the disease. For more, read the story.
