As nursing home and assisted living residents feel the effects of strict visitation policies, Indiana caregivers claim that these restrictions are abusive, as loved ones are more prone to nursing home abuse without consistent visits from their family and friends. Others argue that while the restrictions made sense for the short-term, there is no reason to continue long-term restrictions as rapid testing becomes more available for athletes and other populations.
While some policies and restrictions are changing, the article explains that several facilities are communicating the policies poorly, building distrust and confusion. As time goes on, more and more caregivers and family members are advocating for visitation rights, many of whom lost ones in the midst of Covid-19, and don’t want others to experience the same loss.
