Infection Prevention Awareness Week

Today wraps closes infection prevention week as risk factors are highlighted by government and healthcare professionals. The goal is to reduce infection in elderly who suffer from lowered immune systems and open sores. Many elderly are typically in long-term care and assisted living facilities where infections occur and spread often.

Every year 1 – 3 million infections occur. Infection types include UTIs, diarrhea, MRSA, C. diff, and staph infections. These infections lead to hospitalizations and even death. The public and healthcare workers are advised to be aware and prevent infection and the spread of infection whenever possible. For more, read the story
