A jury recently determined that a nursing home facility was responsible for the pain and suffering during one of its patients’ final days alive. While one nurse aide was changing the victim’s bed sheets, the victim fell from the bed and sustained serious head injuries. Facility protocol stated that two aides were to be present and assisting with linen changes.
According to public records, the victim had several health issues before she fell at the facility. As such, the jury did not see the nursing home responsible for the death itself, only for her intense suffering which occurred after the fall. The jury ultimately awarded $1.8 million for the victim’s family. For more, read the story.
