Lawmakers Working For Greater Consequences For Understaffing Nursing Homes

One third of nursing homes in one state self-reported understaffing in 2015. Based on this data nursing home patients were withheld from 9.1 million hours of care. For this reason, lawmakers would like to pass a bill requiring a current bill to be enforced.

“Here's the problem, we now know that even though that bill has been law for six years, it's simply, in many instances, not being followed,” said a senator, who is sponsoring the bill. The new bill will be less vague and adhere to stronger finds so the consequences outweigh the cost of understaffing and the savings that accompany it.  For more, read the story
