Legislation Reduces Bed Count in Nursing Homes, Conflicting Opinions from Politicians

Several nursing home facilities have decreased the maximum amount of beds allowed at their facilities, and some politicians have expressed their delight.  According to a report, some legislators believed the bed reduction was completely necessary to improve the quality of care that seniors receive at nursing homes.  New laws were put into place that spelled out some quality standards facilities must follow.   

Others argue that this legislation is not favorable, because a reduction in beds means less federal funding to nursing homes.  Some facilities have struggled to remain open, and some were forced to shut down.  For more, read the story.
