A state group home patient with a breathing tube near his throat was found with maggots near the opening. The group home was investigated to observe how sanitary the care was for the patient since maggots are associated with filthy conditions and uncleanliness. He was removed from the home citing a need for better, more involved care.
“It’s clear from seeing this that the state cannot be relied on to police itself,” said the director of public policy. “When you have thousands of cases (of abuse and neglect) happening across the state — this being one of the most egregious — we must give some reassurance to families that their loved ones are being taken care of.” For more, read the story.
