Man Dies from Pressure Ulcer Complications after Hospital Stay, Investigation Pending

A family is mourning the death of their loved one who died in comfort care after suffering complications from a decubitus ulcer, or pressure sore. According to the coroner’s report, the decedent’s “massive” pressure sore had become seriously infected following a hospital stay. The hospital’s CEO has since apologized to the family for the tragic situation, and an investigation is currently pending.

“It is our commitment to be open and transparent with our community and to reassure the people whom we serve that we provide safe, high quality care. As well, we are committed to continuous learning and improvement in our daily practices and providing leadership in raising awareness of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers,” the hospital’s CEO said in a statement.
