A man, mentally ill, pleaded guilty in last week to the murder of an elderly resident in 2009 while the men were living in an assisted living facility. The suspect had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, paranoia, and chronic alcohol abuse, according to the Division of Health Service Regulation Adult Care Licensure Section which responded to the murder.
Following the guilty plea, the man was sentenced to a maximum of 18 years and nine months in prison. He was given credit for the two years and eight months he’s already served in the Catawba County jail. For more, read the story.
