Mass. Nursing Home to Receive Covid-19 Vaccine

Vaccine 5779405 1920

A nursing home in Needham, Massachusetts will be one of the first in the United States to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Wingate at Needham has lost at least 20 residents to the virus, and when residents found out they would be among the first to get the vaccine, “there were both tears of joy and hope.”
A Boston news source was able to enter the nursing home and interviewed residents as they awaited the vaccine. Everyone at the home is in their mid to late 80s, making them a top priority for the vaccine as they are a high-risk population. Many residents were kept in their rooms for months at a time, fearing the day the virus might spread to them. Others lost spouses to the virus, and lived without visitors or company since the onset of the pandemic.
Residents are starting to look forward to what life could look like after they receive their vaccination. One woman stated that she just wants to go to her daughter’s house and visit with her children. With several dates on the calendar to give the first and booster vaccine starting at the end of the month, residents are signing up for their slot.
