Medical Errors Potentially Third Leading Cause Of Death

Next in line to heart disease and cancer, medical errors may be the third leading cause of death in America based on a recent study.  Heart disease and cancer account for about 600,000 deaths per year. With medication and surgical errors, the causes leading to death may equate for 250,000 deaths each year. 

Most of the American public is, however, unaware of the amount of errors leading to death due to coding from the Center for Disease Control. There is a push to change the codes to account for medical errors, rather than specifically pointing to the reason the individual went into the hospital. For more, read the story
