New Nursing Home Staff Reporting System Is Revealing Understaffing

Nursing home staffing reports required by the CMS are dropping the ratings of some nursing homes. Previously nursing homes had to report staffing for a 2 week period prior to an inspection. This allowed nursing homes to “staff up” for the 2 week period. CMS is now requiring daily staffing reports for a given quarter to properly rate the nursing home for it staffing.

Upon providing these reports daily, nursing some nursing homes dropped down to one star out of a 5 star rating system. The new reporting system is revealing how poorly staffed many nursing homes are. For more, read the story.
