A former nursing home assistant has been charged with first degree sodomy charges, second degree elder abuse, and attempted first degree sodomy charges. A witness saw reported that an incident occurred in which a patient was attacked and was injured trying to fight the nursing assistant during the assault. The patient victim was 68-years-old. The nursing assistant was immediately terminated when the incident was reported.

Two nursing home aides have been charged with a misdemeanor and a felony after allowing a dementia patient to wander from the facility and then falsifying records stating the patient's whereabouts were verified every 15 minutes. The patient was missing for 7 hours without administrative knowledge. When it was finally realized that the patient was missing, the facility reported the missing patient to police. The patient was found 2 miles from the facility wandering through streets.

Nursing homes in one state are turning away patients without alternative care or locations to stay. Patients are losing funding due to decrease of skilled care or therapy. The patients are being given ultimatums to pay additional fees out of pocket or leave the facility immediately. Some patients are being turned to homeless situations as they have nowhere else to reside or recover from their medical situations.

Nursing homes in one state have inflated their star rating to appear to have a higher ratings in the areas of staffing and quality measures. The staffing and quality measures are self-reported by facilities leaving room for inflation and inaccuracies. The facilities are motivated to report higher staffing rates to achieve higher ratings.

Many nursing home facilities in one state are receiving fines for poor quality care. The facilities are not preventing abuse and neglect. Some of these issues fall back to staffing shortages.

 A nursing home is closing due to lack of funding. The facility received several state inspections yielding bad reports. As a result, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid terminated funding for the facility. Patients will need to relocate as the facility closes.
