Nursing Homes Facing Large Fines Turnover Leadership

A group of nursing homes running under the leadership of a non-profit group will turnover to new leadership soon. Three of the 20 facilities received fines of up to $1.2 million for violating standards of care. The facilities fell into financial hardship and required reallocation of leadership in order to survive. One of the facilities dealing with financial struggles failed to make rent payments for three months totaling $10.5 million.

A nursing home worker has been accused of abuse of a nursing home patient. Authorities have charged the worker with felony patient abuse and neglect and misdemeanor assault of a handicapped person. The worker has been release on $25,000 bond. Allegations prompted an investigation by police after the family identify abuse of their loved one.

Former Nursing Home Employees Convicted Of Elder Abuse

Three former nursing home employees have been convicted of elder abuse after allowing a patient to suffer injuries. The employees claimed they were monitoring the patient throughout the night based on their documentation. However, video surveillance proved no one entered the room. The patient suffered over 100 ant bites in the 11 hours she was unmonitored despite falsified records stating she was monitored.

Nursing Home Administrator On Trial For Crimes

A nursing home administrator has been charged with elder abuse by the state attorney general’s office. His charges include four misdemeanor counts for allegations of elder abuse, wrongfully discharging patients unable to care for themselves who ended up in the hospital among other charges. The administrator is currently on trial for his crimes. The nursing home facility would not comment on the case.
