Nursing Home Death Toll Rises To 14

The death toll has risen from 12 to 14 in the ongoing scrutiny over a nursing home that recently closed its doors. The nursing home was found to be negligent in its care after the rescue of patients suffering heat without power or air conditioning in the facility. Power loss occurred as a result of a hurricane. The patients who most recently died as a result of the loss of power were 90-year-old and 95-year-old females.

Nursing Home License Revoked For Wandering Patient Found Dead

A nursing home's license is being revoked after a patient suffering from Alzheimer's went missing. The patient was found dead in a drainage ditch one month after going missing. The state revoked the license of the facility stating “gross incompetence, negligence and misconduct”. A survey conducted two days after the patient went missing revealed that the staff did not immediate report the patient missing.

Nursing Home Caregiver Sentenced To Prison For Abuse Of Patient

A nursing home caregiver was captured on video abusing an elderly woman in her care. The elderly patient was a 95-year-old woman. The caregiver repeatedly slapped the woman and yelled at her, telling her to eat and drink and not to mess with her. As a result of the abuse, the caregiver was sentenced to 1 year in prison.
