Nursing Home Patients Rescued From Flood Waters
Fifteen patients were airlifted after being rescued from flooding in a nursing home. A photo went viral showing patients sitting in chairs and wheelchairs immersed up to their waists and chests. The patients were not originally evacuated when the administrator believed flood waters would not rise to the facility. Emergency crews responded to the cries for help and brought the patients to safety amid the hurricane aftermath.

Hidden Cameras Being Offered To Patients In One State
One state is expanding its offer of hidden cameras to monitor caregivers. Previously, cameras could be borrowed by the state for private homes to monitor caregivers. Nursing home patients are now being offered the same opportunity to monitor care at nursing home facilities. The cameras are hidden to monitor abuse and allow patients to identify it if it is happening to them.
Nursing Home Cited Again
A nursing home with a history of citations has been cited again. Past citations included short-staffing, where one nurse was left with 34 patients and a patient left in bed with a broken leg for 26 hours before being taken to the hospital. The facility was fined $33,031 for the broken leg incident.The most recent citation involves failure to provide a dignified environment for the patients.
Bacteria In Nursing Home Water Causes Legionnaire's Disease In Patients
Water restrictions have increased as a nursing home found Legionella bacteria in its second building. The bacteria was identified in the first building when a patient got sick from the bacteria and contracted Legionnaire's disease. A second patient also got sick. Legionnaire's disease is more dangerous for the elderly as they are more susceptible to getting sick from the bacteria with weaker immune systems.
