A state group home patient with a breathing tube near his throat was found with maggots near the opening. The group home was investigated to observe how sanitary the care was for the patient since maggots are associated with filthy conditions and uncleanliness. The facility was noted to have 28 deficiencies, ranking six times higher than the average for facilities in the state. The violations by the facility resulted in employee resignations, sexual assaults by sex offenders at the facility, and other issues.

Nursing Home Fined For Patient Fall, Death

A nursing home has been cited and fined $25,000. The violation of the standard of care as enforced by the state health department involved the failure to safely transfer a resident who suffered a fracture.
