Veteran Walks Miles To Visit Wife In Nursing Home
An off duty police officer picked up a veteran walking on the side of the road recently. The veteran was walking miles to see his wife who was in a nursing home suffering from dementia. The veteran has had a stroke and his truck was broken down, but he was determined to visit his wife. Upon arriving at the nursing home, the veteran was thrilled and rushed to visit his wife.
Caregivers Accused Of Elder Abuse
A doctor and caregiver under his charge provided care in two unlicensed facilities for nursing home patients. Both individuals are now facing charges for caring for six elderly patients who suffered from urinary tract infections, bed sores, pneumonia, cardiac arrest, and malnutrition. Some patients were covered in urine, and one patient even died.The physician also billed for medicines never provided to patients.
Nursing Home Olympics Provide Fun Patient Activity
Nursing home patients are participating in nursing home Olympics to encourage activity, create community, and offer social interaction. The participants competed in 10 events including basketball, bowling, Frisbee and golf. “They become normal for the day, they can get out, they can do things, they see people, they talk, they have a picnic,” said the lead volunteer and emcee for the event. A nursing home was closed by the health department after reports of rats, flies, and call bells that did not work. The nursing home patients were left in the same clothes for days, with caregivers sleeping during their nursing shifts. An investigation revealed additional issues with patient care. Nursing Home Employee Charged With Rape Of Patient
A nursing home employee has been charged with rape of a dementia patient. A nursing home visitor voiced concerns alerting authorities to the employee's disturbing behavior. After the employee exited the patient's room, a supervisor identified the patient partially unclothed. Police interviewed the employee who confessed to having two instances of sexual intercourse with the patient.
Nursing Home Neglect Leads To Lawsuits
Two nursing home patients at nursing homes owned by the same company have died from pressure ulcers. The pressure ulcers should have been treated with better care, or prevented according to the families of the patients. One of the patients developed pressure ulcers and died from overwhelming bone infection and pneumonia.
