A rising crime with nursing home patients is financial exploitation. Individuals such as family, friends, or even those less acquainted, who sign for power of attorney for a patient going into a nursing home sometimes abuse the power. Nursing home patients are experiencing exploitation where they are placed in nursing homes and the bills are never paid.

A nursing home has settled a lawsuit without admitting fault. The nursing home was accused of poor quality care, allowing a patient to suffer UTIs, weight loss, dehydration, falls, and finally pneumonia which sent him to the hospital. The family agreed to settle with the nursing home for an undisclosed amount. The settlement took place under the oversight of a judge, agreed upon by the family and nursing home administration.

A patient has been noted as missing from a nursing home. The patient uses a wheelchair and police have asked the public to notify authorities if he is found. The man is 53 years old.
