CNA Abuses Veteran, State Not Licensed To Investigate
A nursing home patient at a veteran's facility has sustained injuries from abuse. A CNA was found to have been the abuser. Law enforcement investigated the incident and the CNA was fired from the facility.
Nursing Home Closes Doors On Authorities' Order
A nursing home will no longer offer nursing home care after authorities ordered the facility to close its doors to all patients. The patients were not receiving adequate care as staff let skin conditions go untreated, used unnecessary physical restraints and medications and provided inadequate nourishment and bathing and toileting care. The allegations from authorities concerned 16 different patients.The nursing home is settling at $100,000 regarding the allegations of worthless care.
Nursing Home Patient Suffers Injuries From Fellow Patient
A nursing home patient suffered a brain bleed, fat lip, black eyes, lacerations and swelling on his face. The attacker was another patient suffering from Alzheimer’s, who lashed out in a fit of rage. The family of the injured patient is seeking justice for its loved one. Incidents of patient rage due to Alzheimer’s and dementia are not uncommon, but sometimes go unreported.
Nursing Home Patient Assaulted By Caregiver
A nursing home caregiver has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a patient in the nursing home facility where he worked. The caregiver was identified by another employee during the assault. She walked in the door while the assault was taking place. In a police interview the caregiver admitted to multiple accounts of sexual encounters with the patient who was described to have “profound mental retardation”.
Nursing Homes May Be Required To Install Cameras In One State
A lawmaker in one state is working to pass a law that would require cameras in nursing home patient's rooms. The law would allow families of patients to view video footage at any time. Nursing homes are stating they have concerns about patient privacy. However, supporters believe it would capture abuse and neglect in the act, as well as lessen future occurrences of it.
Nursing Home Patient Dies From Hernia, Lack Of Care
A nursing home patient has died and the family is fighting to take the case to court. The patient had a hernia and was cited by state officials for failure to receive proper medical care in a timely manner. The patient had a swollen stomach and was vomiting moments before his death.
