One nursing home patient was selected to receive a shadow box quilt from a group of patients at a local hospital. The hospital patients worked with a sewing expert to complete the quilt for a nursing home patient. The nursing home patient was presented the quilt to the excitement of the hospital patients. The hospital patients take on different projects to give back while they are receiving care.

The family of a nursing home patient has filed a lawsuit against the nursing home where she received care. The patient was allowed to suffer injuries leading to her death at age 77. The nursing home is accused of failing to provide a safe environment and adequate care. The patient was a resident at the nursing home for 3 years until she died.

Attorneys general have filed several lawsuits against nursing home chains in two different states for failure to staff their facilities properly. A shortage of staffing has been deemed the culprit for clinical deficiencies leading to poor quality patient care. The issues in the lawsuits pointed primarily to negligent care, deceptive marketing and Medicare/Medicaid fraud.One chain settled its lawsuit at $2 million.

A nursing home aide has been charged with three counts of theft after stealing jewelry from patients where she worked. She stole items including wedding bands and took them to pawn shops to exchange for money. Patients notified police on three separate occasions that their jewelry had gone missing. The aide turned herself in to authorities and was placed on bail.

The family of a nursing home patient suspected abuse after the patient told them she was being mistreated. The patient had experienced a split lip and bruises on her face. In response, the family placed a hidden camera in the patient's room.As a result, the camera recorded the patient being sprayed with water in the face and a towel placed over her mouth.

Two nursing home facilities have been cited for numerous violations at a level of AA and A. The AA level means an error or omission caused a patient's death. A level of A means great harm or death could have or has occurred.
