Nursing Home Patient Drowns Face Down In Puddle
A nursing home is under investigation after a patient's death. The patient went outside for a smoking break during a hurricane. The patient who was in a wheelchair fell over and drowned in a puddle in the courtyard where he was stationed. The nursing home did not check on the patient soon enough.
Nursing Home Fined For Patient Negligence
A nursing home has been fined $25,000 for allowing a patient to fall out of bed and failing to properly assess the patient after the fall. Days later, the patient had to be transported to the hospital. The patient had a fever of 103 degrees and abdominal pain with vomiting. The surgical site where the patient had amputation surgery weeks earlier reopened and the wound became infected.
Nursing Home Employees Charged With Theft Of Patients
Six nursing home employees have been charged with theft of residents at the facility where they provided care. Theft included using a patients' ATM cards to withdraw cash amounting up to $7,500. Another employee stole jewelry from a 95-year-old resident.The charges by the attorney general's office include grand larceny, identity theft and petit larceny charges.
Nursing Home Patient's Burn Leads To Death
A nursing home has been blamed for a patient's death by the state health department. The nursing home “failed to provide adequate supervision when the resident’s foot rested on a heater and was burned”. Within weeks the patient's burn worsened, her health declined, and she died.
Nursing Home Patient Files Lawsuit
A patient has filed a lawsuit against a nursing home seeking damages for lack of care. The patient was allowed to suffer from a pressure ulcer without provision of proper prevention or care once the pressure sore formed. The pressure sores caused injuries and hospitalization. The patient claims the pressure sores were preventable.
Nursing Home Employee Charged With Abuse Of Patient
A nursing home employee has been charged with endangering the welfare of a physically disabled person, willful violation of health laws, physical abuse/neglect/mistreatment and first-degree falsifying business records. The attorney general's office instigated the investigation leading to the charges.Police assisted the attorney general in making the arrest. The nursing home employee is being held in jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
