On December 11, 2008, a 90-year-old female at risk of falling was admitted to the hospital. Three days later, the patient was permitted to fall from her bed, because the hospital staff failed to activate the patient’s bed alarm, or    raise her side rails. The patient sustained a left interochanteric hip fracture requiring surgery.

A complaint has been filed to the state department of health because patients are not receiving adequate care. The complaint involves nursing staff withholding water from patients to avoid them getting wet. The nursing staff also allegedly ate the patient’s food leaving them short of their meals.

The widow of a nursing home patient has filed a lawsuit for wrongful death against a nursing home corporation. The patient was admitted with the understanding that the nursing home was responsible for his care. After the patient was allowed to suffer falls, dehydration, pneumonia, weight loss, and fractures, the patient died.

A nursing home administrator has been charged with fraud after stealing $94,000 from a patient’s trust fund. The family is more than shocked, as they new the administrator well. She was a family friend for years.

A nursing assistant has been arrested on counts of larceny for stealing from a patient. The theft included drugs and money. The son of the victim noticed that his mother’s prescription pills had been switched and that money was missing in the amount of $700.

 A nursing home aide has been arraigned for abuse of an elderly patient and falsifying records. The aide was observed pushing and shoving a patient who later suffered a shoulder injury as a direct result. The aide then lied in the patient’s records about how the injury occurred.
