Nursing Home Patients Receive Easter Baskets

As many celebrated Easter with family and in church services, one family chose to celebrate with the elderly in nursing homes. Concerned that patients would not receive visits and have opportunities to spend with their family for Easter, a mother/daughter team decided to bring Easter to them. They compiled and delivered 110 Easter baskets, specially chosen to hook to the patients chairs, beds, and walkers.

A retired banker has taken on the role of visiting nursing home patients after experiencing the kindness of a stranger when his mother was in hospice. He so appreciated someone coming to visit his mother while she was sick. “This lady came over and sat there, and she’d stay for two or three hours talking to my mom,” he said.

Nursing Home Patient Falls, Dies 8 Hours Later

A nursing home has been cited for a second death in its facility due to substandard care. The state health department identified the nursing home in a state of “immediate jeopardy”.  Because of the citation, the facility is no longer allowed to accept new patients and the state threatened to remove government funding, as well as recommending fines of up to $10,000 per day.

Nursing Home Worker Charged With Theft Of Patient

A nursing home worker has been charged with theft from a patient after stealing a check and cashing it. The patient alerted the police when notified by the bank about account activity. The nursing home worker cashed the check amounting to a few hundred dollars according to police reports.  The nursing home employee was arrested for larceny and fired from her job at the nursing home.

Nursing Home Patient Assaults Another Patient, Causes Death

A nursing home female patient’s death was ruled a homicide after nursing staff identified another male patient assaulting the female patient. The cause of death was identified as coronary heart disease brought on by attempted strangulation. Officials are still determining if charges will be brought against the patient at fault.   “We’re conducting a criminal investigation to determine whether or not charges will be brought against the male resident,” said the attorney general.

Nursing Home Wrongful Death Lawsuit Cites Reckless, Abusive Behavior

A patient’s daughter has filed a lawsuit for her father’s death just a few months after being admitted to a nursing home. The lawsuit states that the patient did not receive proper care which led to his severe dehydration, malnutrition, kidney failure, and ultimate death.
