Pre-K children are enriching the lives of nursing home patients and preparing for kindergarten at the same time. The children come for show and tell, exercise, and games. Nursing home patients find joy and incentive to participate in actives with the children.

A nursing home employee has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of rape. The nursing home employee was witnessed sexually assaulting a nursing home patient with dementia. The nurse that witnessed the incident reported it immediately.

Nursing home patients allege that nursing homes are trading them for more lucrative patients. The patients filing complaints in a state court describe the actions of nursing homes as dumping them for patients with greater insurance and reimbursement benefits. Patients with lower reimbursement opportunities are sent to the hospital and refused readmission.

A family has been awarded $1 million in response to a patient’s death at a nursing home facility. The patient sustained severe and fatal pressure ulcers, while illness and injuries led to her death. Punitive damages were awarded in the amount of $560,000 and compensatory damages were awarded in the amount of $440,000.  Family members say the patient was neglected and did not receive proper care in a safe environment.

Two nursing home employees have been arrested on charges of elderly abuse. The employees were identified by a whistleblower and a police investigation followed. Security footage identified two specific instances of physical abuse by the two arrested workers.

One researcher is on a mission to identify the sources of nursing home neglect. In search of facts, the researcher approached nursing homes and spoke directly with staff working there. Findings revealed correlations between staffing and patient care.
