A nursing facility has received low ratings because their administrator failed to acknowledge and report several incidents. Nursing Home Employee Arrested For Stealing Drugs From Patients
A woman who worked at one nursing home for 15 years was recently arrested for stealing morphine from that nursing home. This year the administrators at the facility noticed that there were missing drugs from the nursing home. The administrators called the police and the police later found the missing drugs in the former nurse’s home with labels from the nursing home still on them.
Whistleblowers Help Catch Illegal Activities In Nursing Home Facilities
Many nursing homes are being caught and punished for allowing illegal “kickbacks” to become a part of their system and a way to gain more money. An example of one of these illegal kickbacks is when the facility will pay doctors to send patients unnecessarily to their facility. Doing this increases the amount of patients that will come to their facility, which increases the amount of people they are billing, bringing in more money for the facility.
Patient's Death Brings Lawsuit By Son
A man plans to sue a nursing home because they failed to provide a safe environment and supervision for his elderly and mentally disabled father. When his father was being admitted into the nursing home facility, he was categorized as at risk for developing bed sores and infections. During his stay there were no records of his skin condition being checked.
Nursing Home Receives Highest Class Of Violations And A Fine of $100,000
One nursing home facility has been fined $100,000 for the highest class of violation that can be received from a state survey. The citation was given to the facility based on the failure to properly care for a patient that led to his death. The patient had a history of head trauma and difficulties with chewing and swallowing.
Survey Citations Lead To Improved Nursing Home Patient Care
Three nursing homes received multiple citations for survey violations such as unsanitary conditions, problems with staff, and failure to prevent injuries of patients. After viewing the results of their surveys, two of the three nursing homes arose to the challenge of correcting the issues. Many new rules and changes were set in place to improve the facility’s patient care.
