A five-year running nursing home rating system is changing its criteria after criticism was vocalized regarding the current system. The ratings have been based largely on self-reported data from the nursing homes. Ratings have increased with 36 percent of homes receiving 4 and 5 star ratings in 2009 to 65 percent of homes receiving 4 and 5 star ratings in 2013.

A nursing home employee who initially accused her co-worker of threatening to behead her is now behind bars for a felony offense. The employee who was accused of threatening his co-worker’s life is no longer the focus. Co-workers claim his innocence.

Drug abuse and theft have risen in one state involving nursing home patients. Nursing home workers account for one fifth of the theft of drugs from nursing home patients in one state. A nursing home employee has been charged with two twenty year felonies after being fired. The accusations came after the employee did not produce standard accounting records. An accountant was brought in to audit the nursing home’s account.

The state has issued a citation of the most serious nature to a nursing home. The citation involves a situation with a resident that brought immediate jeopardy or danger to the patient. The citation requires that an injury take place.

A nursing home has been sued for wrongful death and damages in a lawsuit on behalf of the nursing home’s deceased patient. The lawsuit was filed by attorneys representing the family of the deceased person. The family claims that the nursing home did not properly care for the patient.
