A nursing home worker is in jail with bond set at $1 million. He was arrested after being fired from a nursing home and threatening to behead his co-worker. He has been labeled by police as a terrorist connected with ISIS.

A nursing home worker has been accused of sexual assault of a 60-year-old female patient. He pled guilty to the charges, although he initially denied them. The woman did not say anything about the first assaults for fear no one would believe her, as the man was well liked.

A nursing home is under investigation by a state bureau of investigation. However, the case details are being kept confidential until the investigation is complete. The nursing home did identify that there is an investigation.  The nursing home is expected to release a statement once the investigation is over.

One state is speaking out against nursing home abuse and neglect by demanding lawmakers to increase fines when found guilty of abuse and neglect. Currently fines are minimal in comparison to the return payment of Medicare for services rendered to patients in nursing homes. Activists believe that lawmakers are favoring nursing homes with low fines.

A recent study by a university points to evidence that Alzheimer’s patients may suffer the effects of negligent care long after the memory of the events are gone. The study involved Alzheimer’s patients watching movies that were sad or happy. After watching the movie, their memory of the events of the movie were tested.

Two nursing homes have been cited and fined for abuse and neglect of residents. The citations include incidents involving falls, verbal abuse, medicating a patient without a doctor’s orders, and failing to care for pressure ulcers properly. The incidents led to fines of $1,650 and $640.
